Every fall, friends and supporters of The Guidance Center come together to support critical mental health services for our community’s most disadvantaged children and their families at our annual Sunset Sip benefit. Each Sunset Sip event has a theme that highlights a significant component of mental health and mental health treatment. The selected theme for this year is Hope Takes Flight.
The theme, Hope Takes Flight, spotlights the tremendous power of hope. Having hope or feeling hopeful has numerous positive and beneficial outcomes, “including greater happiness, better academic achievement and even lowered risk of death. It’s a necessary ingredient for getting through tough times, of course, but also for meeting everyday goals.”1 Hope is propitious. However, it can be challenging for an individual to preserve hope, especially after they have endured traumatic experiences or lived with difficult circumstances.
Many of the children and families who come to The Guidance Center arrive at our doors after facing trauma or hardships. Often, their experiences have caused them to feel hopeless. Our expert therapists understand the importance of having hope and how it contributes towards a clients’ progress. Staff utilize therapeutic techniques to help clients access, restore and strengthen their hope so they feel uplifted and can soar to new heights.
Over the next few weeks, we will share updates from some of our former clients who use hope to live happier and healthier lives. These individuals have accomplished many things since completing treatment and speaking at previous Sunset Sip events. Their inspiring updates will shed light on what can happen when hope takes flight. Join us in celebrating their accomplishments by following along.
We also invite you to celebrate hope and rise up in support of children’s mental health by joining us at this year’s 9th Annual Sunset Sip: Hope Takes Flight. The event, which will be held on Saturday, September 14th at the Hotel Maya, will feature wine tastings, a plated dinner, and silent and live auctions.
As Academy Award winning actor Christopher Reeve once said, “Once you choose hope, anything is possible.” Our hope is that you will join us in making the world a better place for our children and families.
