The holiday season is fast approaching!
Most of us are in the process of making plans to shop for the ones we love. You may have already created a list of people to purchase gifts for this year or researched which stores have the best deals. In your plans for gift-giving, we encourage you to consider providing holiday cheer to those in need. Many children and families in our community face complex hardships that negatively affect their mental health. The holidays can be a distressing and discouraging experience for them.
So, this is where the Adopt-A-Family Program comes in!
What Is the Adopt-A-Family Program?
Every year, The Guidance Center launches our Adopt-A-Family program as an opportunity to give back and spread holiday cheer by “adopting” a family for the holidays. Our thoughtful donors purchase gifts for children of all ages and families of all sizes. There is also the option to make a monetary donation of any amount which will be used to purchase a gift card, on your behalf, to support a family. All gifts must be dropped off at our Long Beach headquarters to protect and maintain our clients’ confidentiality.
Whether you have supported this program for years or this is your first time participating, your generosity will make the holidays special for so many families this year!
Adopt-A-Family 2023: By The Numbers
Last holiday season, holiday cheer was delivered to 92 families adopted totaling 385 children and caregivers.
How Do I Adopt-A-Family?
Here’s how the program will work this year in four simple steps:
Step 1: Please fill out the Adopt-A-Family Registration Form with your name and your contact information.
After completing this form, you will be contacted by someone from The Guidance Center’s Development Team. This is when you will receive information about your adopted family, including a brief story about the family and why they will benefit from being adopted this holiday season. You will also be able to select a date and time to drop off your gifts.
Step 2: Purchase and wrap gifts from the wish list provided to you after being matched with your adopted family.
You may also wish to purchase gift cards. Have fun, and include your children, other family members, co-workers, and friends in the process.
Step 3: Decorate a festive holiday card.
This is where the true holiday spirit will come alive! We encourage you to include a heartwarming message in your holiday card.
Step 4: Deliver your wrapped gifts and holiday cards!
