The holiday season is just around the corner and we are delighted to announce our holiday Adopt-A-Family program! Whether you have supported this annual program for years or this is your first time learning about it, your generosity will make the holidays special for so many families this year.
Our Adopt-A-Family program gives members of our community the chance to give back and spread holiday cheer by “adopting” a family for the holidays. In years past, we have asked our donors to purchase and wrap gifts for a family in need. However, like last year, we have modified our Adopt-A-Family program due to the ongoing COVID19 pandemic and to ensure the safety of our clients, our staff and our donors.
Here’s how the program will work this year in four simple steps:
Step 1: Please fill out the official form here: bit.ly/adoptafamily2021. A member from The Guidance Center’s Development team will contact you to give you the information about your adopted family. This will include a brief story of who the family is and how being adopted will make a difference in their lives this holiday season.
Step 2: Purchase a gift card or gift cards. This year, we ask that you only purchase gift cards for your adopted family. Our families will benefit from gift cards from establishments like Walmart or Target or grocery stores like Food 4 Less and Northgate. Or gift cards to their favorite local restaurant, yogurt or coffee shop. A Visa or MasterCard gift card will also work.
Step 3: Decorate a holiday card. This is where we hope you will get creative and the true holiday spirit will come to life. You can get the whole family involved in creating festive holiday cards for your adopted family. We encourage you to also include a heart-warming message in your card.
Step 4: Deliver your holiday card and gift cards. We are the bright green building located at 1301 Pine Ave. on the corner of Anaheim and Pine. You may safely drop off your gift with our wonderful front office staff during the first two weeks of December. *Please place the gift cards inside your holiday card and make sure your name is listed on the card. This will help ensure that we give your card to the correct family.
*Important* To ensure safety for all, we are requiring that you sign up to drop off your gift on a designated date/time. Sign up information will be shared once you have been matched with a family.
If you are interested in adopting a family this year, you can sign up today! Visit bit.ly/adoptafamily2021 to get started.
Last holiday season, we had 119 families adopted totaling 566 children and caregivers. With your support, we can help even more families this year! We serve families of various sizes and greatly appreciate adoptions of any of our participating families.
TESTIMONIALS:
“It’s so special to be able to give back to a deserving family in our community. We are thrilled to have made participating in The Guidance Center’s Adopt-A-Family program one of our annual holiday traditions. We love that The Guidance Center shares a little bit about the family we’re supporting. It helps us feel connected and there’s a lot of joy in knowing how our donation can make a difference in their lives.” – Scholten Family
This Christmas my family unit (4 adults + 1- 4yr old) decided to not gift exchange (among the adults) and instead adopt a family via the Guidance Center. We are not well-to-do by any means, but are keenly aware of and grateful for the lives we do lead and share. To be able to assist a family in need now meant so much to each of us. While the whole process of doing this has been enriching, highlights have been the conversations that led to this decision, along with preparing the gifts to each recipient (with our 4yr old supervising those efforts). – Perry-Schilling Family
“Blessed to bless others. I never want to take for granted what I have, and I rather donate than spend money on materialistic items that bring short to no fulfillment. Love and unity is what we need during this pandemic.” – Anabell and Leo Chavez
